Introduction

The Consumerism Research and Policy Division (BPDK) is one of the core divisions of the Ministry responsible for the formulation, implementation and coordination of policies and legislation relating to consumerism. This is in line with the Government’s desire to provide the best protection to the rights and interests of consumers.

Vision & Mission

MISSION

Strengthening consumer protection through formulation of consumerism policies and legislative provisions under the Consumer Protection Act 1999 and the regulations thereunder.

Objective

  1. Review current consumer issues to assist in the development of current and future consumer policy; and
  2. Enhance consumer protection through clear legal provisions.

Function

  1. Review, implement and monitor the National Consumer Policy and the Consumer Action Plan;
  2. Coordinate consumer issues through the National Consumer Advisory Council (MPPN) and its taskforce;
  3. Coordinate advertising issues through the Advertising Committee established under the Consumer Protection Act 1999;
  4. Manage regional cooperation on consumer issues by participating as delegates representing Malaysia in the (ASEAN Committee on Consumer Protection (ACCP)); and
  5. Conduct studies and research to assist in the formulation of policies and regulations relating to consumerism.
